St Paul in: Greece, Turkey, Malta, Cyprus
Number four in the series of Guides to places of Christian pilgrimage. Here we present a fascinating tour of the modern-day countries visited by travellers following in the footsteps of the Apostle Paul. We visit all of the Pauline sites including: in Turkey the Seven Churches of the Revelation and the cities of the Aegean and Mediterranean coasts, plus Istanbul; Then to Greece and Thessalonika, eastern and western Macedonia; the Meteora monasteries; Delphi, Athens, and Corinth; On to Salamis and Paphos in Cyprus; And finally exploring the rich history of Malta, where there are frequent reminders of Paul’s legacy. Another theme is Paul’s letters to the believers of the Seven Churches of the Revelation.
First of all, the story of Saul of Tarsus’ conversion on the road to Damascus which led to his three missionary journeys, and journey to Rome, is told. Next, each country is featured in its own chapter in order to follow the most likely itineraries of present-day travellers. In conclusion, the authors reflect upon Paul’s transformation of Christianity from a Jewish sect to embrace Gentiles, and his influence on Christianity as it spread from Jerusalem to Rome. These lands are rich in reminders of the hardships faced by early Christians to establish their faith.
Like all Guides in this series, we profusely illustrate this book in full colour with several maps and plans. Most of all, this is an essential aid for pilgrims to prepare for a pilgrimage and a quality souvenir to bring back many lasting memories.
